(KNSI) – Patients at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center will get a special meal catered by an area business for the Veterans Day holiday.

Along with a heaping helping of gratitude, pulled pork, cole slaw, and baked beans from Up In Smoke BBQ will be handed off to staff on Friday and then served to all 200 hospital patients at the facility. Owner Tim Hoefer says, “It’s amazing to know if you see any of them guys get a good meal, the smile puts on their faces.”

Hoefer says he has a personal connection to the VA, and the collaboration makes sense for everyone involved.

“I’ve got family ties with the VA. My grandfather was a radiologist at the VA for like 30 years, and then he spent a couple of years at memory care up there.”

Up In Smoke will be running a ‘Buy One Get One Half-Off’ Veterans Day special at its 2nd Street South location on Saturday. Hoefer says his restaurant will be celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas as well. It is working on finalizing its menu and will be rolling out take and bake holiday favorites, including smoked turkey and ham.
