(KNSI) – The Food and Drug Administration says a product marketed for toddlers and young children may contain lead.

It is recommending that parents stop giving their kids WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Fruit Puree pouches immediately. The advisory applies to all lot codes and expiration dates.

The pouches are sold nationally by several chains with locations or operations in central Minnesota, including Amazon, Dollar Tree, and Sam’s Club. If you have already given the pouches to your kids, the FDA suggests that you take them to their primary doctor for a blood test.

Lead can cause abdominal pain, anemia, headaches and vomiting in the short term. If children are exposed to it for longer, you may notice constipation, fatigue, irritability, and muscle soreness, among other symptoms.

The investigation into the Wanabana products was started by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, which alerted the FDA to make the recall nationwide. It found four cases where children consuming the puree ended up with acute toxicity because of extremely high concentrations of lead in the pouches.
