(KNSI) – A wanted man is arrested after a high-speed chase that started in Waite Park early Friday.

Police were called around 12:05 a.m. to a Waite Park business for a group of people who had been inside the store earlier stealing and had returned.

The officer was given the suspect’s license plate number, and police learned it had been involved in a recent pursuit with another department. A patrol car found the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop near 28th Avenue South and 7th Street South in Waite Park.

The driver fled south on 28th Avenue and turned west onto Highway 23. He then began to put the peddle to the metal as he turned eastbound onto Interstate 94. The fleeing vehicle reached speeds of 110 mph.

The suspect dodged spike strips on I-94 near the County Road 75 exit. After passing the Clearwater turn-off, the driver veered to miss another set of spike strips, lost control and hit the driver’s side quarter panel of the Waite Park police squad and crashed near mile marker 179.

The driver, identified as Adbiaziz Osman Mohamed and three passengers were taken out of the car. The 24-year-old St. Cloud man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance in the 5th degree, fleeing in a motor vehicle, giving police a false name, possession of a dangerous weapon, and driving after his license had been revoked.

Mohamed also had warrants for his arrest for allegedly fleeing police in November of 2022 and October of 2023. He was wanted for a robbery in January of 2023 for allegedly demanding money from a teenage girl at an Albany gas station and threatening her when she refused to give him cash and an assault charge from October 2023 for allegedly beating his girlfriend.

The three passengers were released without charges.
