(KNSI) – The St. John’s Prep varsity cross country teams both won conference championships Tuesday.

The boys just edged second-place Holdingford thanks to conference champion Zach Meyer. He crossed the tape in a time of 16:16. Fellow St. Joseph native Nick Hansen was second at 16:22. Ben Suo was fourth. Both Hansen and Suo earned all-conference nods.

The boys finished with 38 points. Holdingford had 43. It is the third straight year the boys have taken home the team crown. By comparison, you could say the girls ran away with it, winning 34 to 71 against Paynesville.

Cross country scores are determined by adding up the places of a team’s five best finishers, so lower is better. Olivia Pauly of St. Cloud paced the Johnnies. She won the girl’s conference meet for the third straight year, finishing in 18:57. This is the first time in the school’s history that both the boys and girls won the conference title in the same year.

The Central Minnesota Conference held its meet at Kimball Golf Club.
