(KNSI) – The annual EPIC Student Event is next Friday at St. Cloud Technical and Community College. Over 30 school districts and 120 employers will be on campus to highlight different potential career paths.

Coordinator Emily Davis says it isn’t a traditional career fair but rather a window into the day in the life of different jobs. Davis uses an example from healthcare.

She says, “I believe this year they’re bringing a birthing mannequin. So, students will be able to see what it’s like to be a labor and delivery nurse, somewhat realistically. I believe there’s gonna be some wound care. So things of that nature, so kids can really see what that’s like.”

Six different clusters and 13 specific career paths are possible to explore. Davis says school districts will help kids narrow that down to three before they come. The event runs from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Davis explains how it is organized. “They’re there for about two hours and, as you can imagine, having hundreds upon hundreds of students there all at once, we would love for them to be able to go to all 13, but that we also know is not necessarily doable with that many students there.”

Davis was hired as EPIC coordinator only three weeks ago. She says she is trying to take it all in, given the regional scope of the event.

Another one is scheduled for the spring, meant for influencers like counselors, mentors, and parents so they can tell students what is needed from an educational or experience standpoint to get to the career they want.
