(KNSI) – The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says it’s our time to shine for fall color.
The northern part of the state is now past peak, but central Minnesota is just hitting its stride, between 75% and 100% of peak. Lake Maria State Park would be the perfect place to leaf peep. Stearns County and Sherburne County both have excellent park options within a ten-minute drive of St. Cloud as well. The DNR says the cool nights played a key factor in spurring local color change.
Thursday’s Fall Color Finder update also says this is a good time for birdwatching. Many migratory birds are on the move south.
BirdCast estimates that 1.7 million passed through the state last night alone. The heavy traffic should taper off by the end of the month. You can read more here.
