(KNSI) – Coborn’s Liquor on Cooper Avenue in St. Cloud has received the green light from the city council to sell edible marijuana products.
Councilman Mike Conway is concerned allowing that store and not others to sell the edibles is a slippery slope. “Now, we’re going to open up to two products available in one store and only one in the other. So, if we’re going to do this, then do we then allow tobacco stores to automatically then be able to sell alcohol?”
The city’s attorney provided background of the decision, explaining, until recently, liquor stores were prohibited from selling THC-infused edibles. However, an amendment during the 2023 Minnesota Legislative Session changed the statute, allowing liquor stores to offer edible cannabinoid products. This change superseded the city’s regulations.
