(KNSI) – A St. Cloud Apollo High School senior took her talents to Fairmont, where she graced the stage during the Minnesota Sings competition.
Lilli Midy serenaded the crowd by performing the title song from the musical “Cabaret” at the Historical Fairmont Opera House on Saturday and Sunday. She spoke to KNSI News on Monday as she returned to class and said even though she didn’t make it into the top eight, it was a fun experience. “I made some friends, and some of my friends placed. So that was really fun to see. And I think that I did a great job. I noticed the judges were smiling and kind of dancing along. There were so many talented singers. And everybody that won deserved to be in the finals.”
It was her first time in a competition being scored by a judge.
Midy learned the song from the hit musical to perform at February’s Night of the Stars in St. Cloud. She knocked everyone’s socks off, so she and her coaches decided to sing it again. “We both agreed that it would be a good one to perform for the Minnesota Sings contest because I think that was the audience’s favorite that I sang. And it was just the most impressive song to sing. The other ones were cool, but I think that Cabaret was more powerful, more upbeat.”
Midy is currently in Apollo’s production of “Something’s Afoot.” The show will be on the stage from November 30th through December 3rd.
She was sponsored for the competition by the St. Cloud Morning Optimists Club.
