(KNSI) – The Cold Weather Rule goes into effect from Sunday through May 31st, 2024.
It allows utility customers peace of mind, knowing that as long as they commit to a payment plan, natural gas service cannot be turned off through the winter. The program is administered locally through Tri-CAP and applies to low-income families.
The limit for a family of four is $5,235 per month before taxes. The application period for assistance opens on Sunday. Families who were part of the program in the past are required to re-enroll. A link with more information is here.
Most companies offer other plans to help customers, including an average monthly billing option that smooths out payments into equal installments rather than some quiet months in the spring and fall with spikes in the summer and winter as air conditioning or heat is needed to stay comfortable.
