(KNSI) – Construction in St. Cloud has had commuters pulling their hair out all summer, but there will be some tangible benefits on top of a smoother drive in the future.
Mayor Dave Kleis says the temporary intersection closures that have added to the misery this year are from crews installing high-speed broadband. “There’s an internet provider that’s putting a lot of fiber in. And, you know, look for exciting things there too because that’s competition in the area, fiber and internet, and maybe even cable in the future.”
The mayor says the impact for motorists is lower from the temporary intersection closures, but the combined effect has been enough to cause disruptions. “Those are quicker, little things, but you had all the utility work plus the roadwork. When it’s done… wow. It’s gonna be some nice nice roads that are spooled.”
Kleis says the other thing to keep in mind regarding the construction is that supply chain issues pushed back the Cooper and Wilson Avenue city projects from when they were originally scheduled in 2022. Other work includes reconstructing Roosevelt Road/2nd Street South from Cooper Avenue to Highway 15 by the county.
