(KNSI) – A St. Cloud construction company is holding a diamond anniversary celebration this month.
The family-owned McDowall Company is on its fifth generation of workers. The family got its start in construction in 1895 in Joliet, Illinois, before moving to Minnesota to try their hands at farming near Big Lake. Matt McDowall was a guest of KNSI’s Bob Hughes and explained after the farm failed, his great-great-grandfather George McDowall decided to go back to what he knew best, and the rest is history. “We’re celebrating 75 years in St. Cloud. So founded in 1948, here. And [we] actually purchased a company called the Metal Roofing and Cornice Company in St. Cloud.”
He says they’re organizing a celebration for their employees and loyal customers next Thursday. “We’re bringing people into our facility, and basically just having a party. We’re going to celebrate some of our history, have some food and have some events for the employee’s kids, and just have some fun.”
Today, the company has about 160 workers at their 40,000 square-foot shop in Waite Park. Over the years, they’ve helped build or make repairs at Crossroads Center mall, St. John’s University, the Mitchell Building (known as the Red Carpet) and St. Cloud Hospital.
