(KNSI) – Waite Park has a new Boys and Girls Club location.
A site is now open at Discovery Community School for this academic year. The club runs from dismissal until 7:00 p.m. on school days. It serves kids from kindergarten through 12th grade. Snacks and meals will be provided thanks to a partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture.
Some programs offered at Discovery include homework help and mentoring, character and leadership development, and workforce readiness. Annual membership is free for families. A link to register is here.
Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Minnesota President/CEO Mary Swingle says the service is needed in the city. “Waite Park is a very diverse community with some unique challenges. About a quarter of the population is youth under age 18 who do not have access to positive after-school experiences. Boys & Girls Club wants to be a beacon of hope and opportunity for these youth.”
The project is a collaboration with the City of Waite Park, the police department, St. Cloud Area Schools, the Greater St. Cloud Public Safety Foundation, and others.
