St. Joseph Firefighters Honor 9/11 First Responders

(KNSI) – A central Minnesota volunteer fire department paid tribute to the firefighters who lost their lives while trying to rescue people from the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001.

Members of the St. Joseph Fire Department spent time on Sunday doing the 9/11 stair climb. The group climbed to the top of the hose tower and back down 28 times. The 2,240 stair march simulated the 110 stories the firefighters climbed in the Twin Towers 22 years ago.

According to authorities, 343 firefighters died when the two buildings collapsed. Another 306 first responders have died in the last two decades from diseases they contracted while working at the disaster site.

After the stair climb, the crew hosted the fire department’s annual family picnic.
