(KNSI) – St. Cloud officials say a portion of the Beaver Island Trail within the city is closed for a planned utility extension.

There will be no detours posted to help people navigate around the shutdown between 33rd Street South and 38th Street. The stretch is expected to be closed until early November.

The county is also working on the trail to connect sections in St. Cloud to an existing pathway in Clearwater. A right-of-way running along the railroad tracks will be turned into a 10-foot-wide path. The extension is about 4.5 miles long.

The county work started this past Tuesday. The city closure is effective immediately.
