(KNSI) – Assumption Community in Cold Spring is about to have new owners, which will look a lot like the old ones.

The Church of St. Boniface and the St. Cloud Diocese will transfer the facilities to Benedictine, a Catholic nonprofit that started with St. Scholastica in Duluth. Father LeRoy Scheierl says, “Over the years, the health care industry has gotten more and more complicated so that no single parish is able to adequately oversee the important health care of our senior citizens.”

The Minnesota Department of Health needs to approve the deal, which isn’t likely until at least November. Residents at Assumption should not see any immediate changes to the quality of their care. Benedictine says it is trying to retain all current employees.

Assumption Community consists of Assumption Home skilled nursing, Assumption Court assisted living, Asher Haus memory care, and John Paul Apartments, plus home health agency Assumption Community Services. It employs 153 people and has 234 beds in total.
