(KNSI) – A heat advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for Saturday from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m.
High temperatures are now forecast to be in the mid-90s, with the heat index surging to 103 degrees. The advisory affects Benton, Morrison, and Stearns Counties.
Sherburne County will see even more dangerous conditions. It is part of an excessive heat warning that stretches from the Iowa border to the Chisago Lakes area. For that region, the heat index could reach a scorching 108 degrees, and it is in effect later until 9:00 p.m. tomorrow.
The agency says to drink plenty of fluids, even if you don’t feel thirsty at the moment, check on neighbors and relatives, and stick to air conditioning when possible. If you are required to work or be outside, know the possible signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
There is a 5K event scheduled for tomorrow in Waite Park. The Rock Your Sole race is scheduled to take place at Quarry Park and Nature Preserve, but it will have wrapped up before the heat of the day.
