(KNSI) — The St. Cloud Planning Commission Tuesday tabled a proposal for a two-building apartment complex at the corner of Roosevelt Road and Cooper Avenue South.

Community Development Director Matt Glaesman says staff expects the proposal to be modified, but officials are behind the idea in theory. “Staff does have a recommendation. You know, at this point, we do think, based on the last 40 years of comprehensive plans that the Council has adopted, that there should be an apartment complex. Will it be tweaked, twisted, and turned in design and shape? Possibly.”

The initial proposal from Torborg Builders is for a three-story building with 74 units plus a separate four-story structure with 62 units. There would be a mix of surface lots and underground parking with two spots provided per unit. The buildings would sit on about 4.5 acres. The parcel totals almost 19 acres.

Glaesman says everything discussed at the meeting will be summed up and revisited soon, adding, “There will be questions that staff will be researching until we come back a month from now to the planning commission, and there will be a memo that summarizes our responses.”

Glaesman says another public hearing would be held before the city council if the planning commission eventually recommends the project. He says we are at around day 10 of what could be a 60 or 90-day process.
