(KNSI) – The Sauk Rapids Police Department is kicking off a year of community outreach with its first Cookout With the Cops later this month.
Sauk Rapids Police Sargeant Brent Bukowski told KNSI News it’s a chance for the public to come and hang out. “We look forward to seeing everybody come out and talk with our officers. We’ll be there to answer any questions or if anybody wants to take in a friendly game of beanbags. Some of the officers be willing to play a couple game of beanbags down there.”
The new event is August 30th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lions Park next to the splash pad. Officers will be serving up hotdogs, chips, cookies and drinks.
Bukowski says he hopes the cookout is the beginning of more outreach. “It’s our goal to have more community engagement activities as we get up to our allocated staff numbers to engage with our community. And this was a great idea with summer coming to an end is for us to kick it off at our brand new splash pad down on River Avenue.”
The cookout is free. The event is being made possible thanks to donations from Manea’s Meats and Dutch Maid Bakery.
