(KNSI) — Heat, humidity and strong thunderstorms all look possible again Thursday as the heat dome remains in place over Minnesota with a cool front approaching to bring some relief for the weekend.
A heat advisory is in place through this evening for about the southern third of the state, including Sherburne and Wright County, as heat index values push 100 Thursday afternoon. If you’re traveling from the Twin Cities through Sibley, LeSeuer, Nicollet, and Brown Counties are under an excessive heat warning. That goes from noon until 8:00 p.m.
The National Weather Service says the extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities. They are encouraged to take extra precautions, including rescheduling strenuous activities, taking frequent breaks, drinking plenty of fluids, staying out of the sun, staying in the air conditioning and checking in on vulnerable neighbors such as the elderly, the frail, those with chronic illnesses and those without air conditioning.
Another round of severe storms is possible again Thursday night and into Friday morning as a cool front approaches bringing in much needed relief and temps closer to normal. Some of those storms could produce damaging wind and hail. The Storm Prediction Center has roughly the southeastern quarter, including the tri-county area in the slight risk, or two out of five category. The area was in the marginal or slight risk potential during the last two rounds of severe weather.
