(KNSI) – The gunman in a shots fired incident at the Nike Store inside the Mall of America last August will serve three years in prison.
Twenty-one-year-old Shamar Alon Ramon Lark would be eligible for release late next year after being credited for 250 days of time already served. Lark pled guilty last month to 2nd-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. Lark and Rashad May got into a fight with another group who thought they were part of a rival gang. The two left, returned with a weapon, and Lark fired at the group inside the shoe store while it was filled with shoppers. No one was injured.
The two fled the mall and were eventually arrested in Chicago. Lark’s attorney said it was self defense. Prosecutors pushed for him to be sentenced consistent with guidelines for the charge Lark pled guilty on.
Judge Kerry Meyer ruled Wednesday that Lark is barred from using or possessing a gun for the rest of his life and must pay a fine of almost $4,300 by November 2025. Rashad May pled guilty to coordinating the getaway and avoided prison time in the case.
The incident occurred on August 4th, 2022.
