(KNSI) — The National Weather Service warns once the smoke moves out Monday night, here comes the heat.

The heat dome baking the southwest is on the move and headed for Minnesota this week as temps will be ten to 15 degrees above normal. Monday will almost touch 90 degrees, and it just gets hotter from there. Tuesday will be in the low 90s, while Wednesday and Thursday will reach the upper 90s. Dewpoints will also be in the mid 60s, making it feel even more oppressively hot as the heat index moves into the triple digits.

According to St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud has seen highs of 100 degrees or hotter 51 times.

For those who work, exercise or play outside, forecasters say it’s important to know the signs of heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. If you stop sweating, get chills or feel faint, get into an air conditioned space as soon as possible and sip – don’t gulp – cold water. Also, they say to keep an eye on kids and check on elderly, sick or frail neighbors and those without air conditioning.
