St. Cloud City Council to Discuss School Expansion, Liquor License, and Alcoholic Beverage Ordinance Monday Night

(KNSI) – The St. Cloud City Council has a full plate for their meeting Monday night, including a public hearing on a charter school’s expansion and a liquor license for a new downtown restaurant.

The hearing is in regard to Stride Academy’s proposed $9 million dollar expansion. The K through Eight charter school is buying two parcels of land adjacent to the current school for a 14,686-square-foot expansion of the original school. The city is not obligated to make the debt service payments. Stride Academy benefits by using the city’s tax-exempt status per state statutes.

A public hearing will also be held for a liquor license for Tequilatown Club & Cuisine. The Mexican restaurant and bar is opening in the former D.B. Searles building at 18 Fifth Avenue South.

The council is set to discuss amending the city’s ordinance on sidewalk cafes tonight. The change would allow any licensed establishment to sell alcoholic beverages on the sidewalk in the downtown business district. The board will likely vote for a public hearing on August 9th to discuss the proposal.

The meeting starts at 6:00 p.m.
