Minnesota Named Ninth Best State for a Summer Road Trip

(KNSI) — We know Minnesota has many great places to visit, and now the state is being recognized as one of the top ten in the country for the great American road trip.

Personal finance website WalletHub named Minnesota the ninth best summer road trip state. Family and pocketbook-friendly locations were studied by the experts and rated on 32 metrics and three dimensions of costs, safety and activities.

Researchers looked at gas prices, car repairs, hotel room and campsite rates, vacation rental availabilities and the cost of living index. They also considered vehicle miles traveled per capita, traffic related fatalities per vehicle miles traveled, population density, traffic congestion, driving laws, and quality of roads and bridges. Crime rates, car thefts and rates of uninsured drivers were factored in, too. Then came the share of area designated as national parkland, park recreation visitors per capital, zoos, botanical gardens, amusement and theme parks, fairs and festivals, nightlife options, scenic byway access, historical sites, miles of shoreline, and idealness of summer weather.

WalletHub says 80% of U.S. adults plan to take a road trip this summer.

According to AAA, for this Independence Day holiday, the agency is projecting a record 50 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles away from home. They say 43 million are expected to do so by car.
