(KNSI) — This weekend is the annual Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Take a Kid Fishing weekend, meaning adults don’t need a fishing license if they have someone under 16 with them.
Take a Kid Fishing Weekend goes from Friday through Sunday. Anyone under 15 doesn’t need a fishing license at any time of the year.
Check out the DNR’s website if you want to learn to fish or brush up on some angling skills.
Some parks offer free equipment on a first come, first serve basis.
Ann Pierce, director of the DNR’s Parks and Trails Division, says, “Not everyone grows up learning outdoor skills, and for some, lack of experience, equipment or skills can be a barrier to trying new outdoor activities. Our goal is to remove that barrier and make it easy for all Minnesotans to connect to the outdoors, feeling prepared and safe.”
