(KNSI) – June is Great Outdoors Month in Minnesota.
There are a lot of different ways to take advantage at your favorite state park. Staff lead nature walks during the day and hold campfire talks at night. You can learn about area wildlife and plants, brush up on outdoor skills, or examine the night sky.
There are 60 locations to hold a picnic, with sheltered areas that are good rain or shine. Paddle in a canoe or kayak or put the boat into the water to enjoy some fishing. You can set up a tent at a campground and spend the day on 1,300 miles of trails, either walking, biking, or roller skating.
The proclamation for Great Outdoors Month comes just days after the Department of Natural Resources got $110 million for facilities upgrades at state parks. Fish hatcheries improvements, modernizing campgrounds, new boating, and outdoor access points, plus stream and lake restorations are now being planned.
As part of Great Outdoors Month, the DNR will have Take a Kid Fishing weekend, starting next Friday. Adults with a child do not need to have a fishing license for June 9th-11th.
