(KNSI) – More than half of Minnesota is in abnormally dry conditions, with drought appearing in the state’s southwestern corner.
Around 66% of the state, including all of Benton, Stearns, and Sherburne County, is a little dry. Meteorologists blame a high number of hot sunny days. Counties boarding Iowa and South Dakota are in moderate drought, affecting around 15,800 people.
Climatologists say they’re concerned about drought despite a snowy winter and flooding earlier this year. Rain totals are below average so far this spring.
Experts say the state will need at least an inch of rain a week to prevent conditions from worsening.
