(KNSI) – With Memorial Day Weekend over, it is officially summer and you don’t have to travel up north for fun in the sun.

Experts with the TurfMutt Foundation say a staycation is perfect for making memories, easy to get to, cheap, and offers a variety of activities. The foundation offers tips to turn an ordinary yard into a summer oasis.

For starters, keep the yard clean, mowed and well-maintained and make a list of all the fun you want to have outside. Pick spots for games such as cornhole, soccer, bocce ball, croquet, or a giant checkers board. Also have a spot for entertainment and relaxation such as a space with patio furniture and a fire pit.

A vegetable garden or flower beds can also make the space more colorful.

Set up an area where kids can do summer reading, create games, and stargaze.

TurfMutt says the potential for fun backyard spaces is only limited by the imagination and a willingness to create such a space.
