(KNSI) — Gas prices in Minnesota are in a relative holding pattern ahead of the big Memorial Day weekend and the start of the summer driving season.
According to AAA, the statewide average is about $3.50, which is up a penny from Tuesday and up five cents from a week ago but down eight cents from a month ago. Around St. Cloud, gas is about $3.43 a gallon, which is where it was Tuesday, but up six cents from a week ago and down 13 cents from a month ago.
“Despite mild weather and a less volatile economic forecast, drivers are not hitting the road and raising gasoline demand to traditional seasonal levels,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson. “It’s possible this is merely the lull before Memorial Day, but it could be a trend that lingers into summer. Stay Tuned.”
Nationally, the average is $3.56, up two cents from Tuesday and up three cents from a week ago, but down 11 cents from a month ago.
Our Upper Midwest neighbors, Iowa and Wisconsin, also saw their gas prices nudge up by five cents each. Michigan saw one of the biggest jumps in the country at 20 cents in the last week.
