(KNSI) – A celebration is planned that will be enjoyed from Rockville to Richmond next month, and it has been two decades in the making.
Richmond Parks and Recreation Director Kevin Mooney says the ROCORI Trail Construction Board has met monthly for 19 years.
“It was like the longest marathon you could ever imagine. Now that it’s done, it’s like…just take a big deep breath and step back and look at the great accomplishment and what a wonderful amenity we have provided the residents of our communities.”
The finishing touches are being put on the third segment, which ties it all together. Meant for everyone from walkers to rollerbladers, cyclists, and snowmobilers, the trail runs through the three cities that make up the ROCORI School District.
Mooney talks about how they plan to party from one end of the 15-mile stretch to the other.
“We have rented two peddle pubs out of the Twin Cities and we’re gonna do two parades on the 17th. We’re going to do ribbon cuttings in both Richmond and Rockville at 11:00 a.m. and we’re going to converge on Cold Spring.”
When they reach the Third Street Brewhouse, patrons can enjoy a drink and live music.
Mooney says the route was first envisioned over coffee 20 years ago.
