(KNSI) – The wet well at the Park Press Lift Station needs nearly $40,000 in repairs.
The tank temporarily holds sewage before it is treated and then released. A valve was repaired last year and during that work, it was discovered that the discharge pipe was at risk. One of the pumps at the station is also failing.
Waite Park City Council will debate accepting a bid from contractor Electric Pump for $37,000 to make the two fixes. The equipment is highly specialized and only one proposal was entered. City staff say Waite Park has been working with Electric Pump for over 20 years.
The council is also expected to accept a grant of $27,751 to allow the Waite Park Police Department to hire one candidate through the Pathways to Policing program. The Department of Public Safety Office of Justice Programs says it received 15 applications this year for about double the $390,000 available.
Pathways to Policing helps encourage non-traditional candidates to switch to a law enforcement career. A two or four-year degree in any field is all that is required. WPPD will be reimbursed once the candidate has completed a four-month training course at Hennepin Technical College and been licensed by the POST Board.
