(KNSI) — The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for Tuesday as low relative humidity, high winds, and dry vegetation are a recipe for critical fire weather conditions.
Forecasters say winds will be weaker than Monday, but warmer temperatures will drive down the humidity. Dewpoints will be in the teens Tuesday afternoon. Winds will be gusting around 30 miles an hour at the same time.
The highest fire risks are in Benton, Sherburne and western Stearns County, along with the southeastern chunk of Wright County. Other areas in central Minnesota are under a significant fire weather risk.
Winds will die down Tuesday night, and the red flag warning goes through 8:00 p.m.
The Department of Natural Resources is putting burn restrictions into place starting Wednesday. No permits will be issued until those restrictions are lifted.
Chances for rain ramp up starting Thursday night, continuing through at least Monday afternoon.
