(KNSI) — Waite Park’s new police chief is preparing to take over this month.
The city council picked Sergeant Anthony Reznicek to run the department in April. He told KNSI News he wanted the job to fulfill his promise when he came to Waite Park. “I’ve made a commitment to this community to serve it and to do my best to support it. Throughout my years here, I have strived to do the very best job I can.”
Reznicek is being promoted from within and expects to grow into the position. “For me personally it’s going to be learning the job. I’ve never been the chief before. There’s a number of areas I will have to learn and get accustomed to.”
He says the biggest challenge for the department will be hiring a couple more officers, including another sergeant.
Reznicek has spent 18 years in law enforcement, including the last ten in Waite Park. Reznicek has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and spent five years as a school resource officer and investigator with Waite Park. Before that, Reznicek was a police officer in East Grand Forks. He is also a U.S. Army National Guard veteran and served two combat tours.
Reznicek will take over the job on May 27th. He is taking over for Police Chief Dave Bentrud, who is retiring at the end of the month.
