Local Heroes Day Returning to Open Road RV

(KNSI) – A celebration of our community’s best returns in August.

Open Road RV in Monticello says the 3rd Annual Local Heroes Days will take place from the 17th through the 19th of that month, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.

The family event features free food and admission. The menu consists of summertime favorites like corn on the cob, hamburgers, hot dogs, and root beer. Organizer Scott Kunz says there will be over $20,000 in prizes given away.

At its heart, it is an educational opportunity to learn more about firefighters, first responders, the military, police, and teachers. There will be on-site K9 officer demonstrations, vehicles like ambulances and fire trucks to explore, and more. Over a dozen agencies will have booths and hands-on activities set up inside the dealership at 3880 Chelsea Road West.

A Life Link helicopter is expected to land on the grounds. Replica memorials for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier will be on display. There is something planned for every member of the family.
