(KNSI) — April is the Month of the Military Child, and a local soldier has a special shout out.
U.S. Navy Ensign Austin Abbott, who graduated from Big Lake High School in 2013, is serving at Stennis Space Center in Mississippi, and he wanted to recognize his wife, Kaitlyn and his son Parker. They are in Slidell, Louisiana.
In a message sent to KNSI News, Abbott said he wanted to “thank them for all their support and love they have provided as I persue my military career.”
His parents still live in Big Lake.
Abbott is a meteorology and oceanography officer with Naval Oceanography at Fleet Survey Team, collecting, measuring, and analyzing elements of the land, air, sea and space. That information is then synthesized with oceanographic and meteorological data to create forecasts and warnings supporting flight safety and navigation.
According to the website, the organization recognizes military-connected children for being strong, brave, proud and global. The kids also serve their country through the selflessness and sacrifice of being part of a military family.
