(KNSI) – A fundraiser is scheduled for next month to help a local food shelf.

The Clearwater-Clear Lake Food Shelf has outgrown its building, and they need a new one to meet future goals and demand. Where it is now is 400 square feet of usable space and it has been there since it opened in 1997. Client usage has steadily grown over the last few years and the food shelf has seen a 20% increase in the need for service.

The food shelf serves the Clearwater and Clear Lake areas of Sherburne, Stearns and Wright Counties, with a goal of extending services in a larger, safer, handicap accessible building to accommodate volunteers and clients. A one acre parcel of land has been bought in Clearwater, and building plans have been laid down. The cost is expected to be around $450,000.

To reach the fundraising goal, a pulled pork sandwich dinner is set for April 15th at the Clearwater American Legion at 4:00 p.m. There will also be live music, a silent auction and bake sale.
