(KNSI) – St. Cloud State Men’s Hockey will have to go through two familiar foes if they want to return to the Frozen Four.
The Huskies enter the 2023 NCAA Tournament as the number six overall seed and will see #11 Minnesota State-Mankato in the first round on Thursday afternoon. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. You can watch on cable by tuning into ESPNU or online via ESPN+.
The Huskies and Mavericks played two non-conference games early in the season at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center, with SCSU sweeping both. Each team is coming off a conference tournament championship win this past weekend. The Huskies captured the NCHC crown by beating Minnesota-Dulth in three games last weekend. They then got past North Dakota in the semifinal of the Frozen Faceoff and blanked Colorado College in the title game on Saturday.
The winner between SCSU and MSU gets the victor from the other regional semifinal, #1 Minnesota and #16 Canisius. The games will be played in Fargo. Every matchup is technically sold out but host North Dakota did not qualify for this year’s tournament and there should be tickets available on resale sites like StubHub.
The bracket features three in-state rivals including the one and six seeds. It is likely the toughest regional. The last remaining team in Fargo advances to the Frozen Four in Tampa Bay, Florida, on April 6.
