(KNSI) — Those with family who attended St. Cloud State University can now use the college’s records to search their history.

SCSU Archivist Tom Steman will present Hidden Treasure No More: Genealogical Resources at St. Cloud State. The St. Cloud Area Genealogists will put on the event on Tuesday, March 21st, at 7:00 p.m. The program occurs online and at the Stearns History Museum, 235 33rd Avenue South, in St. Cloud.

Steman told KNSI News the session is for anyone, “I encourage people to join. It’s for any level of genealogy. If you’re just starting or if you’re advanced, it’s always a good place to get those resources.”

Steman has been the university archivist at SCSU since 2007. The session will review how to use the university’s vast resources to learn more about those who attended SCSU. Steman says there are a few things to know about the person you are looking up. “If you know their name, the years that they attended the university or the year that they graduated. Having that specific information about names and the dates that they attended and or graduated will help anyone search very quickly.”

Resources include yearbooks, commencement programs, oral histories, student newspapers and WPA biographical sketches. Steman will also provide tips to search other Minnesota academic institutions online.

The event is free to SCAG members and $7 for non-members. Non-members should email kmsauer@ymail.com at least a week before the event to attend.
