(KNSI) — St. Cloud city council member Dr. Karen Larson has requested an update on the Lincoln Center homeless shelter at tonight’s meeting.

The property sits in Larson’s ward. The shelter has been the subject of numerous complaints by local businesses of theft, trespassing, criminal sexual conduct and drug use since it opened in 2021.

During a meeting in early February, the council acknowledged their hands were tied when it came to forcing changes at the shelter. The council has asked the facility to put security in place to check for weapons and make residents feel safer. They also need to finish installing a sprinkler system. The improvements were part of an approved expansion as operators are installing individual units called PODS to house 25 residents a night. They hope to finish by July 1st.

No other information about the topic was listed in the council agenda packet.
