(KNSI) – The Board of Trustees for the College of Saint Benedict and St. John’s University recently cut eight majors and nine minor programs from the schools’ curriculum.
The decision was made after a multi-year review. In an email obtained by KNSI, President Brian Bruess writes that CSB and SJU are the top two colleges in the state for students finding work after graduation. He says reducing the courses available will allow resources to be shifted to popular degree programs and keep the placement rate up.
Bruess says any students currently enrolled in the programs affected will be able to get their degrees and many of the individual classes offered that make up the programs will survive as an elective. The degrees affected are almost all comprised of 10 students total or fewer in each program.
The list of majors being phased out includes Ancient Mediterranean Studies, Gender Studies, and Theater (minors will remain in these programs). The Dietetics concentration in Nutrition and composition, performance, and liturgical music concentrations within music are also included.
Language majors and minors being phased out include French, German, Latin, and Japanese. Asian Studies, Chinese, Greek, and Peace Studies programs will disappear entirely.
