(KNSI) – Stearns County continues to negotiate with Pheasants Forever to acquire nearly 253 acres of land in Wakefield Township near Knaus Lake.

The parcel would be bought with over $333,000 of CARES Act funding, part of the remaining stimulus money provided during the COVID-19 pandemic. About two-thirds of the land would provide limited hunting, with an outer ring of trails. A 6.76 acre portion runs along the water and will have several amenities, including a boat landing, fishing pier, and picnic shelter.

Park Director Ben Anderson submitted the request on January 17th, which was approved by the Board of Commissioners. Knaus Lake narrows into the Sauk River where the parcel is located. It features 5,400 feet of waterfront.
