(KNSI) – CentraCare is offering free take home colon cancer screening kits until May 31st.

They will be provided at several area locations, including the St. Cloud Hospital Pharmacy drive-up window, Coborn Healing Center at CentraCare Plaza in St. Cloud, clinic labs in Eden Valley and Richmond, and the Sauk Centre Hospital registration desk.

CentraCare says immunochemical fecal occult blood tests are not a substitute for colonoscopies, which remain the best way to uncover colorectal cancer. The kits are free for people age 45 or older.

Colon and rectal cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death for both men and women, but also one of the most preventable. CentraCare says that 70 percent of people who get colon cancer have no family history.
