Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Minnesota Adds VEX Robotics Program

(KNSI) – The Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Minnesota is launching a new program to get kids excited about manufacturing, technology, and engineering.

It’s called VEX Robotics, and it’s part of the CareerSTART program, which was created by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Minnesota to expose kids to different career paths and get them ready for the next stages of education and career development.

VEX is an educational robotics program for students of all ages to learn about various STEM careers. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Minnesota says they wanted to do this for a while, but the start date was pushed back due to COVID-19.

Funding was provided by Kevin & Joan Schatz. Kevin has coached VEX in the past, so he could also bring his know-how to the table. In a press release, Joan said, “VEX provides a great way to learn not only technology but also helps kids develop critical life skills. We are excited to partner with the Boys & Girls Club to offer this wonderful program to kids who might not otherwise have the opportunity.”

One team is already in place, with a virtual competition date set for February 6th.
