(KNSI) — Minnesota author Deb Mercier will be reading two of her books at an event in St. Cloud on Saturday.

Mercier is bringing along a couple of choose-your-own adventure style novels. The books are part of the Detective Youth series, and Mercier tells KNSI News the route you take to the end may vary, but there is only one ultimate goal.

“As you go through and you’re going through different areas of the storyline, what you’re doing is you’re discovering clues, and you’re gathering up clues for this mystery. Sometimes you might make a really bad choice and you might have to start over. But as you’re going through you gather up all these clues and then using deductive reasoning, you name the culprit in the end.”

Mercier is from Alexandria and says her Minnesota roots sneak into her books.

The Empty Cabin — I based the setting on a resort in Nisswa that I grew up going to every summer. Kind of a Northwoods setting for The Empty Cabin.” That is one of the two books she will be reading. The other is The Ghost of Old Central School.

The event runs from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Barnes & Noble in St. Cloud at Division Street and Highway 15. The books are recommended for fourth through eighth graders.

She also writes young adult fantasy and science fiction, adaptations of the classics, and some nonfiction works as well. Mercier says there is something she has penned for every age.
