(KNSI) — The ROCORI School Board has chosen its next superintendent.

After a short deliberation Tuesday night, the board extended a contingent offer to Kevin Enerson, who currently fills the same role with Pipestone Area Public Schools. Enerson has also been a principal and middle school teacher during a decades-long career in education. Enerson has family that lives in the St. Cloud area, and he was looking to move to central Minnesota to be closer to them.

The board said they were impressed with his passion for the literacy program and his being asked to testify before the Senate on this topic. Enerson was also asked how to be respectful of tradition with the need for change. He spoke of discontinuing the practice of each graduating senior class passing down a peace pipe to the next incoming senior class as one example of how to do that.

Longtime Roseville Schools administrator Dr. John Thein is serving as an interim superintendent at ROCORI, his second stint in the role in the past five years. ROCORI named Thein to the position last spring after passing on two finalists it had for the job at the time.

Others interviewed for the position were Osakis School District Superintendent Randal Berquist and Kirsten Doebel, who is the Director of Secondary Education in Fort Dodge, Iowa and Executive Director of Beacon Academy in Crystal Sean Koster.
