(KNSI) – More details are coming out about why the mayor of a Stearns County town abruptly resigned this week.

City of Holdingford

Holdingford Mayor Sue Marstein quit Monday before a council meeting where she would have been asked to step down.

In her resignation letter obtained by KNSI News, she said:

“It has been my pleasure to work for the residents of Holdingford as a council member and mayor. Consider this my resignation as mayor of Holdingford, effective immediately. It has become clear to me that I can no longer be effective in working with the current council.”

The city’s website now lists the mayor’s post as vacant.

Holdingford Clerk Nicky Lahr says the city council will hold a special meeting within the next month to discuss how to fill the mayor’s post. The board could appoint a mayor, take applications or choose a third option. City officials tell KNSI News that they will not hold a special election.
