(KNSI) – A man has admitted to jumping on a train and assaulting the engineer with a knife in Sauk Rapids last fall.
Samuel David Hohman pleaded guilty in Benton County District Court to second-degree assault with a deadly weapon on Wednesday. As part of the plea deal, a charge of criminal damage to property will be dismissed at sentencing. He will be sentenced on March 29th.
In September, the 41-year-old climbed into the train’s cab and began choking the victim by wrapping his arms around his neck. He allegedly told the conductor to “speed up and get out of town” before grabbing a small folding knife and attacking him. The two began fighting, and the victim was stabbed in the forehead.
The victim told police he bit Hohman on the hand, pushed him away and jumped off the train. The train rolled to a stop a couple of miles away in Sartell, and Hohman was arrested.
Police say he had dried blood on his pants and was bleeding from his hand.
Investigators say several wires had been cut inside the engine, causing thousands of dollars in damage. There were also signs of a struggle and blood stains throughout the cab.
