(KNSI) – Don’t let Wednesday’s 40-degree high fool you, there are still several big cold weather events on the calendar.
They can be very important for local organizations like the St. Joseph Rod and Gun Club. It will be hosting its 29th Annual Ice Fishing Contest on Saturday, February 18th, from noon to 2:30 at Kraemer Lake.
Tickets in advance are $15, just $10 for kids 15 and younger. They’re a touch more expensive when bought same-day on the lake at $20. Passes are available online and can be purchased here.
Fun and prizes will be available for all ages. The first 100 kids will receive free ice fishing gear. The club says drawings will take place throughout the event for over $4,000 in prizes.
The club has been a staple in the community for decades. It first began its firearms safety courses in 1972. The club was named the winner of the National Wildlife Federation Chairman’s Award for Outstanding and Distinguished Service in the Field of National Resource Conservation in 1989.
