(KNSI) – A Maple Grove man has been found guilty by a federal jury of selling fentanyl pills, possessing a fully automatic gun, and other federal firearms charges.
The United States Attorney’s Office District of Minnesota says Derrick Maurice Scott was convicted on Tuesday. The 34-year-old will be sentenced on a later date on one count of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, one count of carrying a machinegun during a drug trafficking crime, one count of possession of a machinegun, and one count of possessing a firearm as a felon.
Under the federal sentencing guidelines, Scott is facing a 30-year mandatory minimum prison sentence.
On June 4th, 2022, the Minneapolis Police Department received a report that Scott had threatened a man at a gas station with a gun. Two days later, officers found Scott and pulled over the vehicle he was riding in. Police say they found 355 fentanyl pills and a Glock .45 caliber pistol equipped with an auto-sear or switch, a device that turns a gun into a fully automatic weapon. He also and a high-capacity magazine.
