(KNSI) – St. Cloud is about to get its first lit outdoor basketball court thanks to a generous donation by two area businesses.

St. Cloud Subaru and Design Electric Inc. donated $8,500 to cap off a fundraiser for lights to be installed at Haws Park across the street from the Community Outpost, also called the COP House. St. Cloud Subaru General Sales Manager Bobby Konnight says it is important to help give kids an outlet so they can stay on the right path. “Sports and staying busy is the key to staying out of trouble. Sports was a big thing that helped me be active and hang out with the right type of people.”

Konnight said he wanted to get the COP House the funds now so they can order the lights and get them up this spring. He talked about why the company wanted to help out. “Being a part of the community, we want to be more than a car company. We want to make sure that we’re here for those reasons and to help out. We appreciate what their doing over there [at the COP House]and we want to get involved.”

St. Cloud Subaru also supported the COP House’s school backpack program.
