(KNSI) — One person is dead, and a teenager is seriously injured after two snowmobile crashes in Cass County on Saturday.
Around 11:45 a.m., paramedics were called to a crash in rural Nisswa. Deputies say a 49-year-old Coon Rapids woman was driving a rented snowmobile with a 15-year-old boy on the back. The woman left the trail and crashed into a tree, causing her and the teen to be thrown from the machine. The boy was airlifted to CentraCare-St. Cloud Hospital with serious injuries.
Officials say around 5:00 p.m., a 65-year-old man from Staples was returning from a snowmobile trip when the track on his sled broke. He was thrown from the sled as it crashed. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
All the riders involved were wearing helmets.
